Edwin Daugherty Obituary

Edwin Daugherty, 72, of Blairsville, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania surrounded by his wife of 45 years, Susan (Yarchak) Daugherty, of Blairsville, and his two daughters, Samantha Daugherty Utter, of Sunrise, Florida, and Sherrie Anne Crevak, of Derry, PA.  Born May 1, 1951, he was the son of the late Donald “Red” Daugherty (father) and Thelma McIntire Daugherty (mother).  In addition to his wife and daughters, he is survived by his sons-in-law, Patrick Utter, of Sunrise, Florida, and Stephen Crevak, of Derry, PA; three grandchildren, Jaxson Utter, Kennedy Utter, and Samuel Crevak; and his loyal canines, Max, Rocco, Delilah, and Molly.

Ed worked at Delaney Chevrolet in Indiana, PA and (later) Arnold Palmer Motors, Latrobe, PA for over 30 years.  He enjoyed westerns, working on anything with a motor, building and decorating his basement bar, spending time with his dogs, and his weekly treasure hunts at the Jonnet Flea Market on the weekends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, providing all the fun and entertainment you could ever imagine (probably more than Sue ever bargained for, but...as Sam and Sherrie would say, “You picked him mom!”). Between commercialized slushie machines, go karts, old fashion juke boxes, bowling machines, slot machines and a candy machine...who wouldn’t want to visit Ed (“aka Hat” as the grandkids named him)? His backyard cookouts were unmatched, where he demonstrated his outstanding grilling/cooking talents. He also loved biking the Ghost Town Trail with his fellow High Rise Cyclers, sitting around the bonfire with family and friends late into the night, and serving as bartender at the good ol’ Daugherty family (basement) pub, where the drinks, food, stories and laughs were plenty and there was no such thing as a “last call.”  He could fix or assemble anything, especially if it had a motor, and was ALWAYS Mr. Reliable for anything that needed repaired. (Thank you, Dad.  Those boots are definitely hard to fill ~ Sam & Sherrie).

Ed was a legend, a true cowboy.  He feared absolutely nothing, not even cancer. So, when you read this, just know that he would want you to live “the great life” and never stop fighting in all areas of your life.

Family and friends are invited to visitation at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 25 W. Market Street Blairsville, Pennsylvania on Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. with a service and memorial directly afterwards.  Pastor Dan Cunkelman will officiate.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Four Footed Friends, 220 Beck Road, Indiana, PA 15701 an animal shelter in Indiana County (Ed loved his animals). Our family would also like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to Westmorland Hospital and Select Specialty Care of Latrobe for their wonderful care to Ed.
