Angeline R. Nanni

NANNI, ANGELINE R., 101 OF WASHINGTON, DC FORMERLY OF CREEKSIDE, PA

Angeline Rose Nanni, 101 of Washington, DC formerly of Creekside, PA, was born on August 2, 1918 the daughter of Philomena and Biagio Nanni of Creekside PA   She died on August 27, 2019 in Indiana surrounded by her loving family.  Angie graduated from Indiana High School in 1937.  She went on to get her beautician’s license and worked with her sisters Mary and Virginia in their beauty shop in Blairsville PA.  Anxious to check out working for the government, she sat for a test for a top secret job in 1944.   Angie was able to intuit the meticulous work of analyzing sets of numbers.  She got the analyst job and worked on the Venona project and the National Security Agency until her retirement in 1980.  She was the last of the Code Girls. Ms. Nanni was the beloved ‘Aunt Angie’ to the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of her sisters Mary Persichetti, Jennie Piccolin and Virginia DeLuca and brothers Anthony and Albert Nanni.  She lived independently in Washington DC until recently.  Guests will be received at the James F. Ferguson Funeral Home, Inc. in Blairsville from 5 pm until 9 pm on Friday August 30, 2019.  A scriptural wake service will be said at 8 pm in the Funeral Home.  Prayers of transfer will be held at 9:15 AM in the Funeral Home, prior to a Mass of Christian burial on Saturday August 31, 2019 at 10 am at SS Simon and Jude Church, Blairsville, PA with Father Steven Bugay presiding.  Interment will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Indiana PA.                  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in Angeline’s honor to a charity of the donor’s choice.
