MARKEL, HARRY E., 96 OF BLAIRSVILLE, PA
passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Communities of Indian Haven, Indiana, PA. He was born January 29, 1923 in Beaverdale, PA, the son of the late Lawrence Wesley Markel and Bessie (Barto) Markel. Harry was a WW II US Army veteran having served in Battle of New Guinea & earning 2 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He had worked for the Army Corp of Engineers at the Conemaugh Dam in Saltsburg, PA for 25 years. He was a member of the Tide Sportsman's Club. Harry was an avid horseshoe pitcher and he enjoyed reading history & poetry. He also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Harry is survived by his wife of 68 years, Grace (Palmer) Markel, Blairsville, PA; son, Edward Markel & wife, Karen, Penn Run, PA; daughter, Kathleen Fedoruk & husband, Nick, Blairsville, PA and his grandchildren,Tina Fedoruk and Dr. Kala Markel & husband, Jon Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents. Harry was the last surviving son of 12 siblings. In keeping with Harry's wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the James F. Ferguson Funeral Home, Inc., Blairsville, PA.
