AMOND, MAYNARD "RED", 101 OF INDIANA, PA, FORMERLY OF BLAIRSVILLE, PA
passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019 at St. Andrew's Village, Indiana, PA. He was born September 1, 1917 in Penn Run, PA, the son of the late Vinton Amond and Elizabeth (Holsopple) Amond. His childhood life was spent in McIntyre, PA and he graduated from Indiana High School in 1935. He also attended Juniata College for two years and two years of accounting in Indiana, PA. He married his sweetheart, Alda Lee of Blairsville in January 1942, just before he entered the Army. Maynard served 3 1/2 years in the Army as Staff Sgt in communication of an Anti Air Craft unit during the second world war in the European Theatre. He served during the D-day invasion. He received 5 bronze stars while serving his country. He was a member of the Blairsville Presbyterian Church and a past president of the Blairsville Kiwanis Club, the Blairsville Historical Society, member and past master of Acacia Masonic Lodge #355 F&AM of Blairsville. Member of Jaffa Shrine, Altoona and also one of the original members to form the Blairsville VFW organization. In 1953 he and his wife Alda operated their own jewelry store in Blairsville retiring in 1983. He is survived by several Nieces & Nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alda (Lee) Amond in 2014 and sister, Lucille Dimit. In keeping with Red's wishes, there will be no visitation. VFW Post #5821 & the American Legion Post #0407 will conduct graveside military services in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 12:30 PM. A reception will follow at St. Andrews Village, Indiana, PA.
