James H. Hales, Jr.

HALES, JR., JAMES H., 77 OF BLAIRSVILLE, PA

passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022 at  his home.  He was born December 10, 1944 in Danville, VA, the son of the late James H. Hales, Sr. and Avril (Robertson) Hales.  He retired from the US Marine Corp. after 21 years of service, obtaining rank of Captain.  Jim served 2 tours of duty during the Vietnam War.  He also worked as State Constable in Lawrence County.  Jim was a state commander & national vice commander of the American Legion.  He was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley Order of Masons, New Castle, PA.  He was also a member of the Shriners, VFW and disabled American Veterans all of New Castle, PA.  He is survived by his wife, Esther (Huey) Hales, Blairsville, PA; son, Derek Hales & wife, Shannon, NC; daughter, Brandee Chandler & husband, Robert, NC; step-son, Brooke McDonough, Export, PA; step-son, Joseph Frankenberry, Roanoke, VA; 13 Grandchildren; 2 Great Grandchildren and brother, Barry Hales & wife, Cathy, Reedsville, NC.  He was preceded in death by his parents and grandchild, Evan McCullock.  In keeping with Jim's wishes, there will be no visitation or services.  If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Housing for Homeless Veterans in Pittsburgh, PA.
