John A. Caruso, 87 of Blairsville, PA, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at his home. He was born October 20, 1937 in Blairsville, PA, the son of the late Patsy Caruso and Josephine (Forni) Caruso.
John was a member of the SS Simon & Jude Church, Blairsville, PA. John ruled area golf courses and played on one of golf's biggest national stages when he qualified for the 1988 US Senior Open held at Medina CC in Chicago, Illinois. Locally, John was a six-time champion at Chestnut Ridge, a two-time Indiana VFW champion, and a three-time Indiana County Senior Champion. He was also an accomplished high school wrestler and a talented sandlot baseball player. Little did he know that a chance meeting at Ridge Lanes Bowling Alley in Indiana would kick off his greatest life accomplishment, a 55 year marriage to the love of his life Peggy. John was a friend to all and extremely loyal, loving, and devoted to his family.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret "Peggy" (Vendur) Caruso, Blairsville, PA; son, Matthew A. Caruso & wife, Amy, Raleigh, NC; son, John P. Caruso & wife, Laura, St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren: Sam Moss & wife, Mollie, Sullivan Caruso, Kaylee Caruso, Clara Caruso & Tyler Caruso; great grandchild, Kaladin Moss and several nephews. He was preceded in death by parents and his brother, Eugene H. Caruso.
The family will receive friends at the Ferguson Funeral Home & Monument Company, 25 W. Market St. Blairsville, PA 15717 on Friday, September 12, 2025 from 5-8 PM. A wake service will be held at 7:30 PM in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held in the SS Simon & Jude Church on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 10:00 AM. Fr. John Pavlik will officiate. Interment will be held in the SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, Pennsylvania.
