Laura Hunter (Sheaffer) Smith Caugherty

SMITH CAUGHERTY, LAURA HUNTER (SHEAFFER), 99 OF ST. ANDREW'S VILLAGE, FORMERLY OF BLAIRSVILLE, PA

passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.  The daughter of the late Luther Sheaffer and Laura (Wiley) Sheaffer, she was born on August 20, 1922 in Blairsville, PA.  She was a graduate of Blairsville High School, class of 1940.  Laura cherished time with her family & friends.  She enjoyed traveling, listening to music, attending the Hebron Lutheran Church of Blairsville, the camp at Muddy Run, the family farm in Dayton and her dear friends and family.  She retired from Blairsville-Saltsburg School District after more than 35 years of working in the cafeteria.  She is survived by her two sons; Edwin Smith & wife, Luella, Avonmore, PA and James Smith & wife, Kathryn, Buffton, SC; 3 grandchildren: Jennifer Zofcin & husband, Walter, Laura Smith-Zedarski and William Smith & wife, Desiree; 3 great grandchildren: Ross Zofcin, Brady Zofcin & Meredith Zendarski; 3 step granddaughters: Andrea Kaelin & husband, Marc, Jacksonville, FL; Meggan Matson & husband, Jack, Rolesville, NC and Connie Ann O'Neil & husband, Michael; 2 step-grandsons, Daniel Caugherty & wife, Jill and Corey Caugherty & wife, Jennifer and 10 step-great grandchildren: Morgan, Madison, Macyn & Sophia Kaelin; Grace & Charlotte Matson & Eric, Tamzan, Tristan & Karlee Schmidt.  She was preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband, Edwin Smith and 2nd husband, Elmer Caugherty and brother, James Sheaffer.  The family will receive friends at the James F. Ferguson Funeral Home, Inc., 25 W. Market St. Blairsville, PA 15717 on Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 11-1 PM.  A funeral service will be held at 1 PM in the Funeral Home with Pastor John Smaligo and Pastor Jerry Hoch co-officiating.  Interment will be held in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, Pennsylvania.  If so desired, memorial donations may be made in Laura's name to St. Andrew's Village, 1155 Indian Springs Road, Indiana, PA 15701.
