Martha Jean Silvis

SILVIS, MARTHA JEAN, 87 OF BLAIRSVILLE, PA

passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Beacon Ridge nursing home, Indiana, PA. The daughter of Stefan and Frantiska (Celej) Adamchik, she was born on April 25th, 1932 in Blacklick Township, where she spent the duration of her life with loved ones. She grew up in a large, loving family with three sisters and four brothers. She continued to have a close relationship with them into adulthood. Martha was married to John Silvis and was blessed with two children, Stephen and Elizabeth.  Martha was a head cook at the Indiana County Jail for many years before her retirement. Most of Martha’s time was spent enjoying the company of her family and friends. She was also a member of Our Lady of Assumption Parish in Coral, Graceton.  Martha is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” Silvis; son Stephen Silvis and wife Joanne; grandchildren Stephen, Jennifer, and John; great-grandchildren Oliver and Leaila and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Silvis; brothers Stephen, John, Andrew and Charles Adamchik; sisters Anna Gaston, Mary Remek, Frances Huston and granddaughter Cassandra Silvis.  Friends will be received at the James F. Ferguson Funeral Home, Inc., 25 W. Market St., Blairsville, PA 15717 on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 from 5-8 PM.  Prayers of transfer will be held in the Funeral Home on Wednesday morning at 9:15 AM prior to a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption, Coral, PA at 10 AM.  Fr. Andres C. Gumangan will officiate.  Interment will be in the SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
