Mary Jo (Davis) Hess

HESS, MARY JO (DAVIS), 93 OF BLAIRSVILLE, PA

passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020 at Keeper of the Flame Morewood, Blairsville, PA.  She was born February 17, 1927 in Conway, NC, the daughter of the late Chester Davis and Bruce (Johnson) Davis. Mary Jo had worked at Norfolk Naval shipyards, where she met her husband, Willard.  She had also worked at several small stores in Blairsville with Brown's Boot Shop being the last.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Blairsville, PA and also Creeksville Baptist Church, NC. She enjoyed bird watching, especially her cardinals and finches.  She also enjoyed taking care of her plants and flowers.  She loved sewing, tatting, her dog, Molly, antiquing and going to flea markets.  Mary Jo loved talking with all of her friends and family in North Carolina and also sharing her stories about living in North Carolina.  She is survived by her son, Daniel B. Hess, Blairsville, PA; son, David  G. Hess, Blairsville, PA; daughter, Deborah J. Zias (John), Blairsville, PA; brother, Thomas G. "Pug" Davis (Javotte), NC; brother, Willis C. "Penny" Davis (Brenda), NC and several Nieces & Nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Williard C. "Dan" Hess on 6-21-20 and her brothers, Caster & Robert Davis.  The family will receive friends at the James F. Ferguson Funeral Home, Inc., 25 W. Market St. Blairsville, PA 15717 Sunday, October 18, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM  and  6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  Additional visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church on  Monday, October 19, 2020 from 10-11 AM.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM with Rev. Mark Heckman officiating.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions, masks will be required in the Funeral Home and in Church.  If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 50 S. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA 15717.  Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, Pennsylvania.  The family would like to extend a special thanks to Rob and Sharon Smith and the entire staff of Keeper of the Flame for their compassionate care given to Mom.
