Richard "Dick" Cummings, Jr. 88 of Blairsville, PA, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023 at Beacon Ridge, Indiana, PA. He was born October 21, 1934 in Latrobe, PA, the son of the late Richard Cummings and Helen (Yates) Cummings.
He graduated from Derry High School, Class of 1952. In his youth, along with his father, he was an avid hunter spending weeks and weekends at Bear Camp with many of his friends that passed before him. After graduation, Richard joined the United States Marine Corp where he was stationed in Korea from 1953-1956. After serving in the USMC he went on to work at Kennametal. When Kennametal went on strike, he decided to pursue a career in selling cars. His first job at selling cars was at Bonarrigo Ford. There he found that he loved selling cars and meeting people. During that time, be became acquainted with Samuel Grabiak who owned Grabiak Chevrolet. Sam offered him a position as General Manager. He sold many Corvettes. During his time selling cars, he made a lot of friends he enjoyed golfing with. After working at Grabiak's for many years, he retired and you could find him on the golf course with Joey Nease, Dick Boggio & many others. He golfed many places but his heart belonged to Mannitto in New Alexandria. Dick was a life member of the Blairsville Volunteer Fire Department, the Elks #406, Blairsville Eagles, Derry Rod & Gun Club, Red Barn Sportsman's Club and the VFW. A special thanks to Beacon Ridge, his nurses, aides and Ron Conrad. Thanks also to 365 Hospice, especially Sarah Luther and Candy Coffman.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Vicki Yatzkanic & husband, Robert, Blairsville, PA; son, Rick Cummings & partner, Linda, York, PA; grandchildren, Aimee Mondics & Jeffrey Cummings; sister, Georgine Loughry, Blairsville, PA; sister, Helen Bravis, Derry, PA; sister-in-law, Darlene Cummings, Latrobe, PA and many Nieces & Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anita (Spiardi) Cummings in 2003; brother, Jay Cummings and brothers-in-law, David Loughry & John Bravis.
The family will receive friends at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 25 W. Market St. Blairsville, PA 15717 on Friday, October 13, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. At 7 PM an Elks service will be held, followed by a military service conducted by the Blairsville Military Honor Guard. Interment will be held in the SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, Pennsylvania.
