HESS, WILLARD C. "DAN", 94 OF BLAIRSVILLE, PA
passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA. He was born January 16, 1926 in Coalmont, PA, the son of the late M. Earl Hess and Stella (Ritchey) Hess. Dan was a Blairsville High School Graduate. He served in the US Navy during World War II. He served as a clerk for U.S.P.S. in the Blairsville office for 30 years. Dan was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Blairsville for 71 years, where he taught the Young Boys S/S Class and was a member of the Mens Bible Class. Dan was a charter member of the Historical Society of the Blairsville Area, member of the National Association of Wood Carvers and a member of the Johnstown Post/Card Club. He loved Pirate baseball and Steelers Football. Dan was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed sending out get well greeting cards to people with flowers and calligraphy on the cover to people that were hospitalized and singing happy birthday to people over the phone. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Mary Jo ( Davis ) Hess, Blairsville, PA; son, Daniel B. Hess, Blairsville, PA; son, David G. Hess, Blairsville, PA and daughter, Deborah J. Zias & husband, John, Blairsville, PA. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Eunice Beard, Meda Rager & brother, Clair Hess. The family will receive friends at the James F. Ferguson Funeral Home, Inc., 25 W. Market St. Blairsville, PA 15717 on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the First United Methodist Church, 50 S. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at 1:00 PM. Rev. Mark Heckman & Pastor Dan Cunkelman will co-officiate. VFW Post #5821 & The American Legion Post #0407 will conduct graveside military services Wednesday afternoon in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 50 S. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA 15717 or Blairsville Historical Society, 116 E. Campbell St., Blairsville, PA 15717.
